Built in 1811 by Napoleon Bonaparte as the Fort Impérial to protect Oostende against an invasion by the British. The impressive fortress now serves as a museum and event space.

Prachtig hoe dit oude fort gerestaureerd werd en een nieuwe bestemming kreeg. Volgende keer wil ik zeker het museum checken.

Its worth a visit. Take the free ferry from the vismijn and walk to there. There is also a nice bar/restaurant in the building you can visit without paying entrance for the site.

The museum is quite nice. Gives a good idea on how soldiers fought and lived in the Fort through the ages. Excellent view from the top. Terras is a great place to relax when the sun is out.
