What a gem! I went in to pray at this Roman Catholic Church. It was founded in the mid 19th century, with fires in the early years. It was restored from 2001 to 2010.

The only church in the city that I've felt welcome, open arms as well as the loving message of God. Once the Catholic priest said a prayer in Arabic during homily - so beautiful!

Home to the largest soup kitchen in Manhattan, they feed over a thousand people during lunch on Sundays. You can volunteer through New York Cares and get to know this wonderful and friendly group.

Come around 9:30 to 10:00 Sunday morning (entry to left of main steps) and volunteer to help feed the homeless (goes until 3ish). Rewarding work and you'll get a pretty good meal when you're done.

They do an incredible job serving Sunday meal to about 1.000 homeless people in the city. It's a great way to start you Sunday and more volunteers are needed.

While there's no Christian Meditation group at this church (yet), you'll find other Manhattan locations listed here: www.christianmeditation.us Come and discover this ancient form of Christian prayer.
